Species attending Ludus by ~Draconomicon:iconDraconomicon:

Vampires:
There are two kinds of Vampires, natural-born and bitten.  Bitten obviously explains how they become a vampire, so no details are needed…  Natural-born Vampires are pretty rare, but they do exist.
•Natural-born Vampires occur when a regular human is bitten and “turned” while pregnant.  Or if a female human has sex with a male vampire. This gives her fetus Vampire genes as well and the baby is born a vampire, therefore natural-born vimpirism; which sucks, I’m sure… (pun intended!)
Vampire bats are SMALL, when fully changed, Ari would fit in the plam of you hand… He doesn’t fully transform very often.
Only natural-born Vampires can turn into bats at will.  Bitten Vampires require a spell or magic pendent of some sort.
Vampires (natural-born and Bitten) age every three human years and can live to be over 100 Vampire years (300 human years)

Dragons:
Dragons (most species*) age one year for every seven human years.  (seven is a highly magical number.)  A dragon lives for seven human years before it is no longer an infant / wrymling.  Lifespans vary from dragon to dragon, but an average “death age” is about 250 Dragon years, anywhere between 1750 and 1756 human years.
Average “death ages” per species:
Silver = 250-300 dragon, 1750-2106 human
Gold = 300+ dragon, 1925 + human
Bronze = 275-295 dragon, 1925-2071 human
Black = 275+ dragon, 1925+ human
Red = 250-300 dragon, 1750-2106 human
Blue = 200-225 dragon, 1400-1581 human
White = 200 dragon, 1400 human
Green = 225-250 dragon, 1575-1756 human
Lung = 500+ dragon (lung), 6500 + human
(*Lung Dragons are special in that it takes 13 human years for them to age one dragon (lung) year.  They also have the longest states that there are only 4 lungs in the world, and that when one dies, it is reborn again.  The 4 lungs are for each of the four winds (North, South, East, West))
Breath weapons of dragon species:
Silver = Cryogenic (freezing) → Silver / White / Ice blue
Gold = Pyrogenic (fire) → Golden / Orange / Blue
Bronze = None → water control
Black = Acidic → Black / Green
Red = Pyrogenic (fire) → Normal fire
Blue = Lightning / electricity → White-Blue / White-Purple
White = Cryogenic → White
Green = Noxious gas → Green / Purple / Clear
Lung = “divine winds” → Clear
• Thought speech is very rare, even among dragons of the same species.  Typically, only those who are soul-bound can use thought speech with eachother.
• In recent centuries Dragons have been given Brith gifts to help a dragon find its mate.  The gift is made in two pieces one necklace and and other an earing.  The Earing is worn in the right ear / frill until bonding.

The Sword and Humans:
• The schools Sword can be dangerous to humans and has been known to “change” them.  It has been kept in a basement for years because the last human to touch it was finally captured and entombed there, only stories now remain to warn people of its dangers. Its commonly used to frighten freshmen or new students.
• Very rarely a human and one of the magical creature may bond and give birth to a mixed child, even more rare is the chance such a child will have a child.  Some humans today are from such a union, they are usually lightweight, delicate, graceful, beautiful and inately dangerous with magic or weapons of magical origin.

Lycanthropes:
Also known as were-creatures are humanoids that take on the characteristics of a carnivorous animal.  The animal can be any size the most common 5 are shown below.  Some very rare were can adopt a hybrid shape and control their ability to “shift”  forms.  They age the same s their humanoid species.
Most Lycanthropes are born into the Were and not made.  The born are more likely to control their powers or gift for shape change though it is still rare.  A natural or born Lycanthrope may never be cured if they take belladonna with in an hour of the bite.
The most common Were-forms are:

Were bear   Large
Were boar   Medium
Were rat      Small
Were tiger   Medium
Were wolf    Medium

• Were-tigers: in humanoid forms tend toward sleek, muscular, and slightly taller than average. They are also very agile and the fastest of all the Lycanthropes to learn new things.  When one of them learns to assume a hybrid form, it is usually about 7ft tall and has a 3ft long tail.  The hybrid also becomes striped and its nails becomes claws.
• Were-wolves: look completely normal when in humanoid form.  When one of them learns to assume a hybrid form—at will—it is about 6ft tall and has a 3ft tail at most.  The amount or degree of lupine features combined with humanoid varies from one were wolf to the next.
• Mixes of natural Lycanthropes and Humans may result in beastly humanoids that can not change fully but can change enough to be dangerous.  This mixed breed only results in 1/10 of the children born to Lycanthropes and Humans.
Elves:
(No these are not the little elves of the North pole, these are true elves).  The subspecies of Elves are, Night elves, Blood elves, Wood elves, Wild elves, High elves and Star elves.  In general Elves are tall, frail, very quiet (often only speak when absolutely necessary) uncommonly quick to learn languages or other higher skills, are also good with weapons (mostly bow or swords).  Elves live in many places, though they dislike human cities and large human settlements, they will commonly deal with unknowing humans and will act human to protect themselves.
Night elves
They are commonly evil, they have two common skin tones black and palest white or Ivory.  They are usually trained in two bladed swords and duel weapon fighting.  Most are good with night / dark magic.  They can not see in full daylight and always wear sunglasses when there is any light brighter than a waning moon.
Blood elves
Like Night elves, only skin is red or tattooed with red patterns.  They are loudest of the Elves and love to fight.  They do not commonly use or have magic.
Wood elves
Good in nature (no one knows of an evil wood elf) they are very close to the Dryads and Nymphs some are even of mixed decent.  They have greenish, brown and golden skin, they love earthly tones.  Very quiet and subdued.
Wild elves
Nomads and live like Gypsy's.  They are not good or evil and simply love to follow the winds.  They’re skin is fanned by the un and weathered by days spent in the wild.  They prefer to use bows but will use knives and swords if needed.  They are the least educated of all the Elves and know nothing of their magic gifts when they do emerge (only a few are known to have a powerful gift).  If a wood elf has magic it is commonly linked to animals and other people.
High elves
They are the Elves all other earthly subspecies are derived from.  They are above good and evil, though they can be cruel because they don’t understand earthly life.  (They are kind of stuck up and racist due to their rearing).  Their skin is golden or pale in color, they love rich colors and textures.  Very tall and elegant.
Star elves
Only a myth to many, they are said to be close to Gods in their magical gift and are also said to have come from some far off planet.  We assume their skin color is anywhere from black to white or even some stranger color.  They would have been taller than the High elves and would not have needed any physical weapons.  No one has ever actually seen or heard of one though many claim decent.
• Don’t worry all elves have at least one representative at the school.  (Yes even the Star Elves)
• Minor or lesser Elves have no representation due to uncontrollable magic and lower test scores.  They are small and their subspecies range from brownies to house elves and forestlings.

Dryads (and Dryadkin):
• Beautiful tree sprites, that are very shy and look like elves.  Their skin and hair change with the season.  They are innately magical and control the earth and plants near them.
• Dryadkin are not bond to a tree but if they are in need after they are roughly 18 years old in appearance.

Nymphs:
• Pure embodiment of physical beauty, like quiet and beautiful places to make their homes.  Never show signs of age after they are roughly 18 years old in appearance.

Changeling:
Are humanoid and in their natural form they are tall, thin, pale and weak looking.  They easily assume the forms of all other humanoids and given a choice will wear any form other than their own.  They are born of an unlikely mix of humans and doppelgangers.  They are able to steal thoughts from the heads of those near by.

Demons:
Control elements / elementals and are grouped into the categories law and chaos.  Under those groupings are: earth, air, fire, water.  The less powerful the greater the restrictions are placed on their ability to manipulate the element.
Law:
Erinyes:  feathery wings, sinister eyes, always female, avoid combat, about 6ft tall
Gelugon: Guards and spies, tall alien insects, clawed hands and feet with a tail, 12 ft long
Cornugon: Elite defense, scales, wings, tail, 9ft
Pitfiend: Leader, wings, wreathed in fire, 12ft tall, fanged, red scaled

Chaos:
Succubus: beautiful woman, [or if a man (incubus)] batwings, glowing eyes 6ft, flee combat
Hezrou: Sergants, toad like with blunt teeth, 7ft long, enjoy combat
Marilith: Generals and tacticians (serve royalty), waist down—giant snake, 6 arms, 7 ft tall, 20 ft long, love combat
Balor: Dark red, clawed hands, huge wings, flame covered, 12ft tall with a sword and whip
The above examples are all of the fire element and these are some of the stronger fire types however those with NAMES or royal are far stronger.

“-tuars”:
these consist of a human torso and some type of animal’s legs and bodies.  The most common is clearly the centaur, but other –taurs, such as cat- (any type of big cat), uni-*, pega-*, and gazelle-.  The body of a –taur depends on its specie and breed, as does its size. –Taurs cannot disguise themselves very well, and age like humans. Depending on the specie, -taurs have different kinds of magic, though they all have earth or plant bonded magics.
(*unitaurs and pegataurs are rare, but not unheard of.  They tend to have power like those of their unicorn or Pegasus cousins.  Pegataurs and unitaurs are actually cross-breeds of a centaur and a unicorn or a Pegasus, which explains their rarity, as those species aren’t exactly on the best of terms.)
• The rarest of –taurs is a pegahorntaur, and its existance seems to be only a rumor.
• The –taurs at the school are able to hide their horse (or animal) bodies by using strong magical objects, such as necklaces or amulets. The princcipal is a centaur who is too lazy to actually change and must therefore hide behind his desk whenever Kari’s around.

Human / animal crosses:
These are creatures like Harpies, Sphynxes and Deamons
• Harpies are different than bird-taurs (reverse harpies) and any deamon that assumes a bird/human shape.  In their natural forms, Harpies are rather beautiful women with wings for arms and taloned feet, some have bird tails, all are female.  Harpies take two human years to age one “Harpie” year.  Harpies have strong air and plant magics, and make fierce warriors.  Oddly, harpies cannot sing and cannot assume a humanoid form without change magic or a potion, though they all have bird forms

Here is the current list of attending species (minus fairies) attending Ludus! If you would like to add a species to the "Dean's" consideration list please contact myself or :iconshoydragonrider: with all of the needed info. (I'm am less busy...but she is on more often...)

Karissa (though she prefers Kari) loves mythology so much that when tested by the private school, Ludus, she is admited. The school only admits mythical or magical beings... and Kari has NO power.... Oops they made a Big mistake!
Heres Pro Gladdii, is the story of the resulting years at Ludus is a joint project with :iconshoydragonrider: and :icondraconomicon:. Please feel free to ask us about it or about making a character to go to Ludus with Kari and the rest of our fun gang!

All questions welcome!

Thank you! I hope you have fun reading all about the project.
Do you know of any other groups I'm missing? I think I got most of them (with exception of the fairies whom do go to the school but aren't on the list)

Dearest, I've been thinking about the vampire stuff and I need to change it... It bothers me that vampires can reproduce, since technically they are dead... Let's just cut that out completely and have new vampires have to be created... Sound good?

Oh, and with natural-born vampires, can we have it be if a pregnant woman is bitten or if a female human has sex with a male vampire? That makes the most sence to me.

Thank you so much for posting all this! :heart: And I'm sorry I've been so busy lately! I hope we can get together before the end of break... :D

Remember, Shoy loves you! ^.-.^
:icondraconomicon:
I don't really know that much about magical creatures in Nordic mythology, but Shoy I believe that there are four or five schools around the world teaching magical creatures. The one we are writing about is the one in the USA... There is probably another in China or Japan...

Shoy and I have had to read a lot of books and webpages, so that we could do some justice to our idea.
